Tax Rates
Town residents are subject to a split levy. Tax rates given here for the Town of West Point are the nominal fees collected by the respective Town Treasurer and King William County Treasurer.

Town Real Estate and Personal Property tax bills are due each year on August 5.
County Real Estate taxes are due twice a year on June 25 and December 5. Questions about property assessments should be directed to the Commissioner of the Revenue.
Taxes are assessed as of January 1 of each year and are not prorated. Please be advised that:
10% Interest begins after September 1
10% Penalty after August 5 with a $10.00 minimum penalty
Penalty on personal property tax bills is assessed on the tax assessed before Personal Property Tax Relief (PPTRA).
Avoid waiting in line by mailing your taxes in the enclosed envelope. Official U.S. Postmark will be sued as the posting date. When paying by mail, please send self-addressed stamped envelope if receipt is desired.
Vehicle License Tax: A Vehicle License Tax was approved by Town Council on November 11, 2006 to replace town decals. A Tax of $20.00 for each car or truck and $15.00 for each motorcycle will be added to the personal property bill. The motor vehicle license tax year shall begin on January 1 of each year and end on December 31 of each year.
All real estate bills are in the name of the owner as of January 1st of the tax year. If this property has been sold, please forward the bills to the current owner. Those real estate bills that were requested by a mortgage companywill be sent directly to that organization. If you have received your real estate bill and your mortgage company should be paying, please forward this bill to the mortgage company.

Tax Exemptions on Real Estate for Certain Elderly and Disabled Persons
If you own a home, you may qualify for an exemption on your real estate tax if you are 1)65 years of age or older on January 1 or 100% disabled and 2) have income of $20,000 or less from all sources; and 3) have $60,00 or less in total net worth excluding your home and one acre. Applications for Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled must be filed with the Commissioner of the Revenue by March 1 annually. King William County requires dog licenses within the Town limits. Dog licenses may be purchased from the King William County Treasurer's Office for $5.00 per dog or purchased from Town Hall.
Meals Tax is collected
by the Town at 4% per dollar.
A Town business license
is required of all business and the rate is different according to
the type of business.
Note:
The owner of property that is eligible for or listed in the Virginia
Landmarks Register (as downtown historic district) may qualify for federal
and state rehabilitation tax credits. Look here for more information.
