The above King William County tax rates are specific to West Point residents and businesses.
Town Real Estate and Personal Property taxes are due each year on August 5.County Real Estate taxes are due twice a year on June 25 and December 5. County Personal Property taxes are due once a year on January 16.
Taxes are assessed as of January 1 of each year and are not prorated. Please be advised that:
- 10% Penalty after August 5 with a $10.00 minimum penalty
- 10% Interest begins on September 1
- Avoid waiting in line by mailing your taxes in the enclosed envelope. Official U.S. Postmark will be used as the posting date. When paying by mail, please send self-addressed stamped envelope if receipt is desired.
Vehicle License Tax: A Vehicle License Tax was approved by Town Council on November 11, 2006 to replace town decals. A Tax of $20.00 for each car or truck and $15.00 for each motorcycle will be added to the personal property bill. The motor vehicle license tax year shall begin on January 1 of each year and end on December 31 of each year.
All real estate bills are in the name of the owner as of January 1 of the tax year. If this property has been sold, please forward the bills to the current owner. Those real estate bills that were requested by a mortgage company will be sent directly to that organization. A copy will also be mailed to the homeowner for their records and a mortgage company code will be visible on the bill.

Tax Exemptions on Real Estate for Certain Elderly and Disabled PersonsIf you own a home, you may qualify for an exemption on your real estate tax if you are 1) 65 years of age or older on January 1 or 100% disabled and 2) have income of $20,000 or less from all sources and 3) have $60,000 or less in total net worth excluding your home and one acre. Applications for Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled must be filed with the Commissioner of the Revenue by March 1 annually.
