Welcome to the April 2024 edition of Around the Point, the Town of West Point’s official newsletter. Along with our social media and website, this is another tool to keep you informed about happenings around town and with your local government. Congratulations to our Farmers Market poster contest winners! We are proud of all the students who participated—everyone’s talents were recognized and appreciated. You can check out the posters that placed on our Facebook page.

And now, a few notes about what’s happening around the Point:

  • The Town’s Annual Spring Clean-up will be held from April 8th through April 19th. See the flyer below for more details. To request a work order or for questions, contact Town Hall at 804-843-3330.
  • The recent amount of rain has contributed to clogged ditches around town. It is the property owner’s responsibly to maintain ditches and ensure proper drainage. For questions, please contact Town Hall at 804-843-3330.
  • At our regular Town Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 27th, Town Council adopted Ordinance No. 04-2023 which amends the West Point Town Code with respect to fowl. Those wishing to apply for grandfathering may visit and download Fowl Ordinance Grandfather Application located under Online Services. The deadline to submit your application is Friday, May 31st. Town Council expresses gratitude to our community for feedback provided during this process. Ordinance No. 04-2023 was developed with input from our residents and significantly modified from its original proposal as a result.
  • Save the dates for 2024’s Food Trucks by the River events and Jammin’ On the Point concerts: Event lineups are taking shape—stay tuned!
  • Registrations are coming in quickly for our 16thAnnual Chesty Puller Memorial Twin Bridge 10K. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to run the twin bridges.   • The West Point Farmers Market will tentatively open on Saturday, May 18th (8am to Noon at The Pavilion at Riverwalk Park). If you are interested in becoming a vendor, visit to download the vendor application. We look forward to welcoming several new vendors to the market this year, along with our core vendors who have been with us for many years. It’s going to be a great season!
  • Spring sports have started for our Pointers. Please come out and support our student athletes. You can find the schedule at and on the West Point HS Athletics Facebook page.
  • In case you missed it, West Point Middle School has been named a School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform. Congratulations to the staff, administration, students, and families for this prestigious recognition.

Finally, warmer weather is here and that means our kayak rental kiosk at West Point Creek is out of hibernation and ready for you to enjoy. Learn more about paddling our waterways here, and be sure to follow all safety guidelines before you launch.
