Christmas on the Town 2023

Thank you to our friends at the Tidewater Review for this great feature about the West Point Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas on the Town event!

West Point kicked off the holidays Sunday, December 3rd, with Christmas on the Town, a day of caroling, shopping, a parade and lots of activities.



The parade featured walkers, modern and antique cars, dancers, cheerleaders, marching bands, various community groups and, of course, Santa Claus. As part of the festivities, winners of a student essay contest titled “The Best Gift I Have Ever Given” got to ride in the parade. Landon Mitchell was crowned the year’s Snow Prince while Mackenzie Kohler was chosen as the Snow Princess.



The day’s events also included vendors, an oyster roast, chili cook-off, a cookie decorating contest and a kids’ agility test held at the fire department. In the evening, the “Tree of Life” — a tribute “to those who hold a special place in our hearts” — was illuminated in Beach Park on First Street. Residents could submit names for the tree by donating to the West Point Public Schools Athletic Department.



“It was wonderful to see downtown filled with holiday spirit,” the town wrote on its Facebook page.

Christmas on the Town is an annual event sponsored by the West Point Chamber of Commerce, which said it is celebrating the community throughout the month with “unique shopping experiences, festive dining and a holiday light competition with residents and businesses.”
